General Toy Information
Mattel
History
"The company began in 1945, operating
out of a garage workshop. The original founders were Harold Matson and
Elliot Handler, who coined "Mattel" by combining the letters of their last
and first names, respectively. Their first products were picture frames,
but Elliot developed a side business in dollhouse furniture made from picture
frame scraps, which led to toys, toys and toys."
