Around 1947, Scientist Dennis Gabor developed the theory of holography while working to improve the resolution of an electron microscope. A holograph is an image made by exposing film to the interference pattern created when two laser light sources shine on an object. Must people think of a holograph as a three-dimensional image of an object. For his work Dennis Gabor won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1971.
